Happy Gurpurab and a bit more

It was 545 years ago, a saint was born .He was Nanak, later he became a Guru, a dispeller of darkness, one who ushered in infinite wisdom and light, condemning the practices and beliefs of the society. Today, we celebrate his birthday with pomp, show, langars, prabhat feris, and visits to the Gurudwara, paying our respect. I was however, taken aback by the messages I got. They all wished me well, the Guru’s blessings, some were quotes, some were the meaning of Ardas, some on Ik ONkar Satnaam and some were simple blessings from the heart. I did not post nor send a message.
The reason being, I am hurt and saddened. We celebrate in motions the day of the Guru with daswandh, pomp and religious junoonn but we forget the very principles he stood for. He wanted us as a society get rid of these superstitious beliefs, bigotry difference between rich and poor, or the fact that when he came out the kartarpur rivulet the first words he uttered were’ Neither Hindu nor Mussalman.Today, the society is at crossroads, for being the bloodiest in this identity of religions. Who knew what was the first religion of man was?
Why are women targeted?
Just because she becomes a widow, she has to stop wearing colors? Guru Nanak tried to put an end to this s, abolish sati, and abolish this cultural practice. But, no, she is not supposed to live, just breathe. Not voice an opinion. I have never in my life overheard of a man wearing a white turban because his wife died. I have never heard of him, stopping to wear a certain color because his wife passed away and he was a widower.  Last, I knew all the maroon was still being worn as a turban! How come he doesn’t brazen his position in the society?
Guru Nanak stood for all that was pure, clean, and he had the force to stand tall against all those superstitious beliefs that dragged us down.
But, now instead of interpreting his dictates we are regressing into a darkness that will spiral out of control.
Its Rs 6 to send an sms but it costs nothing to stand for what you believe. Change the mindset and you will see HIM smile from above. Look at the early rays of sunshine catching the dewdrops on a winter morning, or look at the bird trying to catch a worm walking gingerly in the morning on your lawn patch, that will make you smile. That is bliss. The rose unravels her beauty not because you want it to; she does it because it’s in her nature to it.  Do not suppress your inner brilliance and compassion, because some frustrated group of people decided this is how life, and its norms should be.
Think, act and smile and change and stand true to the Messiah who showed the world the way. He, has different names, just pick yours be it Allah, Jesus, Ram or Nanak, Buddha .
